The development of the concept of the library as a "third place", or how to understand the library as a "fourth place" in the digital environment

Based on the criticism of the famous French librarian and library scientist Bertrand Calenge, the development of the library concept is presented as the “fourth place” in the life of society. Special attention is paid to the political sense of the concepts of the library as "third place" and the library as "fourth place" in France. It is concluded that the concept of the library as a "fourth place" does not have the same success as the concept of the library as a "third place", but it still exists and undergoes development.
