Development of small and medium-sized businesses in the context of global economic challenges

Coronavirus and its economic consequences have largely contributed to a fundamental change in the world economic system. These changes negatively affected not only the social environment, in particular, by reducing the demand for goods and services, but also the business environment, in which many companies found themselves in a difficult position due to the crisis. These phenomena have not bypassed the Russian Federation, where even before that there were significant issues with the functioning of small and medium-sized businesses most affected by the coronavirus. Thus, it has become particularly relevant to highlight some features of the functioning of SMEs in the context of the coronavirus and the post-coronavirus economy and develop a number of recommendations for SMEs in Russia. The main results of the study can be considered the identification of global and national-specific factors of economic development and barriers for SMEs, as well as the development of a number of recommendations for SMEs in a crisis.
