The article is devoted to computer modeling, which is more and more relevant in modern production conditions. The benefits of its wide use, the arguments, illustrating the economic and engineering feasibility of its versatile applications are discussed. It is said about the multiple increase of the variability of the structures considered for modernization or newly created. The problem of training the personnel for successful use of them in the production process in different areas immediately after the graduating from the higher education institutions is touched upon. The article considers the issues of reforming the system of modern Russian educational process, and proposes one of the ways of a wider and better training of graduates for computer modeling in the workplace by providing them with the position of "co-authors of the educational process" with the involvement in joint research with the teacher during the training period. The article describes the computer models created by the author with the involvement of students for the modern educational process. The computer simulation of mechanical, thermal power systems and systems of electronics and automation is considered. The positive aspects of such modeling are analyzed and highlighted and the prospects of transition from it and the direction of development with its help of industrial modeling of various systems in machine-building production are outlined.
