The article is dedicated to one of the many senile houses of the Russian Diaspora that appeared before the beginning of the World War II. Unlike the others, this senile house in Rosé-en- Brie was founded and developed by a female monastic community, and monastic prayer accompanied its inhabitants daily. Examined are the conditions of its creation, the stages of existence, the priests who served in the house church, the abbess activities of Melania (Likhacheva) and other residents of the Resurrection female monastery at the senile house in Rosé-en-Brie. And considered is the constant spiritual assistance of the cloister and orphanage by Bishop Methodius (Kulman). With rare exceptions there is very little information about the structure and functioning of the world-famous senile houses of the Russian Diaspora, and even fewer facts about them have been systematized, and concepts of service have been understood. The collection of material for this article was intended to fill this gap by providing researchers with information about the “monastic” senile house. With the Russian Orthodox Church’s modern charitable ministry expanding, it is possible to learn from the experience of its implementation in the history of social projects in the Russian Diaspora.
Combination of merciful and monastic service, russian emigration, senile houses in france, rosé-en-brie, abbess melania (likhacheva)
