The article considers the musical culture of the 19th century, its main directions. A study is being made of the influence of everyday life on the content of works, the culture of the Russian romance, elegy, and song. The composers and their works are evaluated by the example of Alyabyev, Varlamov, Gurilev. Tchaikovsky's romance "Eugene Onegin" is considered in detail.
