The article is devoted to the development of historical residential areas of Zabaikalie in the second half of the XIX - early XX century. Cities acquire individual characteristics under the influence of natural geographic, socio-economic and other factors, and their architectural and spatial environment gradually becomes more complicated by the beginning of the XX-th century.
