Service industry development as crucial element of post-industrial society

Processes of globalization and information technology development became the catalyst for revolutionary changes and changed the paradigm of thinking from an industrial to a post-industrial one. The concept of postindustrial society is widespread in today’s world. A post-industrial society refers to a period of growth within an industrialized economy or nation in which the relative importance of manufacturing reduces to that of services, and information and knowledge become the main factors of competitiveness. The post-industrial society is based largely on the production and consumption of services. The article describes the role of service sector in the process of post-industrial society. The development of service sector in Belarus is analyzed. The problems of development of service sector in Belarus are considered.
