The article includes 6 stages of underground network development in St. Petersburg during last 60 years. Each of them is different depends on level of network development (number of stations, lines and hubs) and coverage ofperipheral city areas. Advantages and disadvantages of current spatial structure of the underground are analyzed by authors. Improvement measures for underground development plan are provided.
