Development of the system of noble land lending in the territory of the Middle Volga in the second half of the XIX century

The article deals with the development of the system of noble families crediting in the territory of the Middle Volga in the second half of the XIX century. The paper analyses the conditions of development of the mortgage lending institutions, lists the joint-stock land banks operating in the territory of the considered region, shows the main results of their activities. The author states that the credit institutions created during this period provided high interest loans, often ruinous to the nobility, which, in turn, affected negatively the volume of investment in the development of their farms.
