The article discusses the phenomenon typical for many Russian regions, when the economic development of a certain region depends on features of the prevailing economic activity. The author considers the key approaches to the research of the regional economy, formulates the theoretical theses distinguishing the economic prevalence from other forms of economic activity in the economy of the region.
