Development of tourism in the border territories on the example of the Okinsky district of the Republic of Buryatia

The article is devoted to study of development of tourism in border zones, using the casу of the Okinsky district, Republic of Buryatia, RF. The area of the district is notable for its rich natural resources and culture, which implies a favorable zone for the qualitative improvement of both the tourism sector and the region as a whole. The main objective of this work was to study the features of cross-border tourism, based on a unique combination of natural resources of the Okinsky district. The area is characterized by area terrain with a wide range of water resources, including springs, rivers, waterfalls, lakes. It is noteworthy that the area is located in the eastern part of the Sayan mountain range, which gives the area an abundance of mountain landscapes. All these unique features are the main tools necessary and in demand for the development of tourism. Moreover, the Russian-Mongolian border passing in the area serves as a good way to attract tourists, and is also an additional feature and advantage of the region. In this article, in accordance with the set goal, a number of problems hindering active improvement of tourist infrastructure were analyzed. The proposed ways to solve the problems of ensuring environmental sustainability of the area will also contribute to improving the well-being of the local population.
