Implementation of sustainable development goals in resource-type regions

The article discusses the problems of sustainable resource-type regions with a high share of mining in the gross regional product and the possibilities of economic growth based on resources. The main features of the mining sector are highlighted. An overview of sustainable development policy instruments is provided, such as local content policies and social and environmental impact assessments. Ways to link the extractive industry with other sectors, use extractive industry infrastructure projects for broader development, and the main forms of regulatory and legal instruments for an environmental and social protection regime are identified. The results can be used to assess development options for resource-based regions and realize local benefits from investments in the extractive sector and prevent negative environmental and social consequences.
