The novel of Joseph Conrad "Lord Jim" is under analysis. The author of the essay being in polemics with some Russian stereotypes of interpretation of Joseph Conrad's artistic world as pure neoromantic, shows how interestingly and innovatively realistic, romantic and modernist approaches to character and plot-making, to narrative and style are interweaved, and thus formed a new pattern of depicting a person and a world in literature.
