Review of the monograph by E. V. Volkov, N. S. Zhuravleva, I. V. Sibiryakov "“Leningrad's Black Sea brother”: Sevastopol in the Soviet cultural memory"

The review examines a monograph devoted to the study of the image of the hero-city of Sevastopol in Soviet cultural memory. The interest in the monograph is due not only to the methodology and novelty of the problematics, but also to the relevance of the issue. The monograph is written in the mainstream of the history of memory based on a wide range of published and unpublished historical sources. The team of authors identified the main Soviet artifacts as «places of memory»; revealed the motives, historical, cultural and political contexts of their creation; showed the activity and role of specific people constructing and broadcasting the images of Sevastopol; demonstrated the ideological, political, social consequences of creating images of Sevastopol, their place in the Soviet cultural space.
