The review stresses that modernizing processes in Russia at the end of XIX - beginning of XX centuries were increasing in the South Urals as well when both capital cities and provincial towns were becoming civilization outposts. The authors show that within the period of time under research considerable shifts in material culture, growth of urban population were quite obvious, leisure activities sphere in cities and towns was formed. All this resulted in many positive changes in everyday cultural life of the South-Urals citizens. The reviewer appraises the source foundations of the monograph research pointing out that the given work is an original historical research disclosing an actual problem with great theoretical and scientific-practical meaning. The monograph materials concerning the forms, the content and general trends of the South Urals urban citizens’ activities in the epoch of art nouveau culture should be highly appreciated.
