Taking the Kursk Region as an example we show the criteria for inclusion of Specially Protected Nature Areas in the Emerald Network. Rare species of plants are important for the designation of such areas. We report the distribution of rare steppe flora species in key steppe areas of the Kursk Region, including potential areas for the inclusion into the Emerald Network.
