Tort reform – 2013 results

The authors analyze the most significant changes made in 2013 to the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, in particular, the amendments affecting the basic principles of civil law, the objects of civil rights, issues of representation, transactions, the statute of limitations and private international law, as well as changes related to the provisions of the pledge and change of persons in the obligation. According to the authors, despite the amendments, which are largely the result of a compromise between supporters of conservative and liberal approaches to solving key problems facing Russia’s legal system – increasing «competitiveness» of Russian law – is still far away.
