Regional response to threats to economic security

For the economy of the region, economic security will mean the ability to ensure the quality of life of the population at a modern level, socio-economic and socio-political stability. In addition, the region must be able to withstand the influence of internal and external threats, relying on its own resources with their rational use. The research in this article is aimed at studying internal threats to the economic security of the Republic of Kalmykia using examples related to environmental degradation and demographic changes. The article discusses some indicators of atmospheric emissions of pollutants that adversely affect the natural conditions of the region. An alarming signal can be considered that treatment activities at stationary sources are being carried out less and less. Another threat to the socio-economic development of the republic is the deterioration of the demographic situation. In 2020-2021, the number of deaths exceeded the number of births, and during this period, the natural increase took a negative value. The problems of population decline in the region are associated not only with the decline in natural growth, but also with its migration. «Leakage» of personnel is also a negative phenomenon. The studies in the article are summarized in certain conclusions and corresponding proposals are formed on them. Elimination of the above negative manifestations is possible only under the condition of a targeted socio-economic policy of the region and state support.
