Regulating ecosystem services in life support: the regional aspect

Goal. The regulatory services of natural ecosystems are indispensable and important for human life and well-being. Carrying out an assessment of their manifestation, taking into account the environmental protection measures taken in the regions. Methodology. The importance of integrating indicators of the underestimated regulatory ecosystem potential of natural landscapes as a factor of sustainable development into the system of state and managerial accounting is substantiated. The research is based on the scientific idea of a common economic value, an environment-forming and life-sustaining function of natural ecosystems. Logical, comparative, graphical, and informative-bibliographic analysis methods are used to describe the theoretical context, select information, systematize statistical data, and then describe it. Results. A comparative assessment of spatial and landscape conditions in the federal districts has been carried out, trends in the dynamics of anthropogenic emissions on landscapes have been identified, indicators of the state and development of the lands of the nature reserve fund have been assessed, elements and targets of regulatory services have been identified, taking into account the importance of the potential of regulatory ecosystem services. Conclusions. The current statistical accounting system does not provide a complete and adequate picture of the state and changes in the "environment-forming life-sustaining function" of regional landscapes, but it allows us to indirectly assess positive changes and the presence of environmental problems. Information on the potential of ecosystem regulatory services forms a complete scientific basis for modeling, forecasting, and planning scenarios for territorial socio-economic development, including the commercialization of landscape regulatory services. This will make it possible to effectively master new types of entrepreneurship in the field of climate projects and recreation, and a reliable unified regional information and analytical database will accelerate the integration of the potential of regulating ecosystem services into the market turnover of carbon units, which will be a natural step in the transition from rational use of natural resources to sustainable use.
