In the article two poems: «The river of time…» by G.R.Derzhavin and «Look, how on the river open space…» by F.I.Tyutchev are compared. The author raises the problem of Tyutchev's creative receptivity, which is considered through the prism of the different types of cultural consciousness: Classicism and Romanticism. On the basis of biblical allusions the author also investigates the semantics of the metaphor «river of time» and reveals a common cultural source of the both poems - The Book of Ecclesiastes. The system of compositional similarities, figurative and space-time analogies allows to conclude a deliberate creative reception of Derzhavin's poetic tradition by Tyutchev as a lyricist.
