Religion in the information environment of social reality

The paper discusses the influence of information and communication technologies on religious processes. The author notes that, nowadays, the informatization affects all aspects of the life of society, including the spiritual, social and cultural fields. The sustainable and dynamic segments of religious systems are defined; the basic concepts of mediatization of the social and cultural areas are described. The research demonstrates that religion interacted with the changing cultural environment is able to maintain its basic axiological attitudes in their historical evolution. Studying the religious field, the author notes the change in traditional mechanisms of the sacred knowledge transfer and the emergence of new information and communicative methods of believers’ communication. The author concludes that the expansion of information technologies modifies the communicative forms of religion, the attitude to the categories of sacred and forms a new social segment, i.e. a virtual religious community.
