The roentgenologic characteristic features of distraction regenerated bone formation for the monofocal and bifocal variant of femoral lengthening in patients with achondroplasia

The data are presented based on the results of treatment at FSI RISC "RTO" of 74 patients with achondroplasia at the age from 6 to 29 years, who were subjected to femoral and tibial lengthening by the method of bifocal and monofocal distraction osteosynthesis. On the basis of the roentgenologic data analysis the characteristic features have been revealed concerning formation of distraction regenerated bone depending on osteosynthesis variant. Basing ourselves on the results obtained we have developed the tactical and methodical procedures of osteosynthesis and the tactical recommendations for lengthening long tubular bones, allowing to improve the final clinical-and-functional results of treatment.
