In the article the issue of adoption by the Harold Macmillan government of the decision on Great Britain joining the EEC in a context of the «special» Anglo-American relations is examined. The author comes to the conclusion that the positive reaction of the US government on Great Britain joining the Common Market had essential influence on acceptance of that decision. At the same time both parties differently estimated the «special» character of Anglo-American relations and consequences of the Great Britain membership in the EEC for their development.
