The paper considers Omsk, one of the largest Siberian and Russian cities, from the perspective of cultural studies. Such method as a cultural portrait is employed to conduct a comprehensive study of relevant urban issues. This method makes it possible to undertake a retrospective review of the regional center under discussion and revitalize the cultural image of the urban environment. The portrait is done on the basis of three works written by international explorers who have visited Omsk from the second half of the 18th century to the present. The diaries of German, American, and British travelers reflected their opinion about the city located at the confluence of the Om and Irtysh Rivers. Based on these works, the authors reveal the attractiveness of Omsk to international visitors, evaluate its cultural diversity, and trace its development. Besides, they identify the enormous potential of the city and the positive dynamics of its urban culture that provides opportunities for growth and development of the Siberian region in the future.
