The article presents the analysis of migration processes in Jewish Autonomous Region as compared to these in the Far East of Russia. The productive forces and economic development of JAR have at all times of its existence been retarded by a man-power shortage. The study considers the influence of migration flows on the development of the whole Russian Far East, and, in particular, on Jewish Autonomous Region, in the two periods: before and after 1991. As for JAR, they were the political factors that launched the migration process (resettlement of the Jews to the region), resulted in the formation and development of Jewish Autonomous Region, and dramatically changed the demographic situation in the region after 1991.
