The article suggests the historical and pedagogical analysis of the challenges concerned with training specialists for sports and health tourism in Russia. The authors identify and summarize the specifics of arranging the educational and learning process in Russian universities dealing in tourism, and reason the approaches to training students for this professional sphere.
