On August 28, 2024, the Expert Council was held, at which the country's leading oncologists discussed issues of improving approaches to the treatment of esophageal cancer. Treatment of malignant neoplasms of esophageal cancer is a pressing and socially significant problem. Every year, more than 500,000 people develop esophageal cancer worldwide [1]. In Russia, more than 7 thousand patients were registered in 2023. The Expert Council was convened to discuss modern methods of treating esophageal cancer with an emphasis on the latest advances in immunotherapy. Particular attention was paid to the role of PD-1 inhibitors, such as camrelizumab, in the treatment of this disease. The results of clinical trials and data on the effectiveness of various treatment regimens were reviewed. The choice of approach to the treatment of squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus depends on the stage of the disease and the patient's condition. Modern treatment options include a combination of surgery, chemoradiation therapy, drug therapy, including immunotherapy. However, there are unresolved issues and problems related to treatment that were discussed at this Expert Council.
