The sonar survey of the seabed in the water area near the Taman hillfort in 2020

The paper contains results of the first scientific underwater archaeological surveys of the Taman hillfort water area (remains of the ancient city of Hermonassa-Tmutarakan) conducted for the first time since examinations of the site submerged part were interrupted 40 years ago. Modern equipment for remote surveys (a side-scanning sonar with ultrahigh resolution and an H5se7surveying echo sounder with working frequency of 700 kHz) was used to survey the water area adjacent to the northern part of the Taman hillfort and the Western Necropolis. The survey detected 15 underwater sonar targets (remains of shipwrecks, stone banks, concentrations of boulders). The processing of the sonar survey data on the tablet revealed four objects located perpendicular to the coastal line of the hillfort (remains of berthing structures, three parallel lines formed by collapsed stones).
