The results of archaeological reconnaissance in Novokuznetsk district of Kemerovo region (Bardino-1 and Bardino-4 sites)

In the field season of 2018, the Rescue Archaeology Department of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the SB RAS conducted archaeological survey in the Novokuznetsk District of the Kemerovo Region. Two objects of archaeological heritage (Bardino-1 and Bardino-4) have been found at the construction site of the Polusukhininkaya mine. Bardino-1 is located on a flat top of a small hill; the elevation is bounded by seasonal nameless streams from the northeastern and southwestern sides. One terminal Paleolithic cultural layer was found containing a core and two preforms, two burins, a scraper, five lamellar flakes, four broken pebbles, flakes and decortication flakes. Bardino-4 site is located on the narrow ledge of the right bank of a nameless stream at the foot of the Kalincheva low ridge. One cultural-bearing layer dated to the 1st millennium AD was recognized. The relevant artifact collection comprises 28 fragments of 2 vessels, split animal tubular bones, a flake and a chisel-like tool and other lithic tools. The layer also contained a considerable number of fragments of scaly iron mass and slags. Currently, the cultural heritage conservation works at the construction site are continuing.
