The article presents the results of the study of 23 populations of alfalfa changeable in the control nursery (CP) for 2017-2019. The main biometric indicators affecting the productivity of samples were Studied: plant height, leafiness and yield of green mass in terms of 1 m2. As a result of the test, the most promising populations were identified, capable of forming a yield of fodder mass up to 6.20 t/ha per season, characterized by stability of indicators of elements of the yield structure over the years of research. The maximum yield on average for two years of use in the control nursery was noted in varietals: Synthetics 4 D 32, TP No. 19, Guzel D 18, Biotype 1-16, Prolific, Diana 21-1, a Mixture of selections 1, Synthetics 4 D 5, which amounted to 8.41-9.23 kg/m2. These varieties will be used in complex studies on the full scheme of the selection process. Alfalfa varieties approved for use in the middle Volga region are not yet sufficiently adapted to the conditions of the zone, so the selection and evaluation of the source material of alfalfa, as well as the creation of highly productive varieties that meet the extreme conditions of the region, is relevant and of particular interest, both in theoretical and practical terms.
