The results of archaeological excavations of the Abalakovo, Galkina-2 site in the Yenisei district of Krasnoyarsk krai in 2018

In 2018 rescue archaeological excavations were carried out as a project to preserve the archaeological heritage site of Abalakovo, Galkina-2. The archaeological site is located on the erosional butte of the 1st terrace over the floodplain on the left bank of the former channel of the Yenisei River at 0.73 km to the south from the Yenisei in the Yeniseisky District of the Krasnoyarsk Krai. An area of 5 527m2 was excavated at the site, and an archaeological collection totaled to 2 432 artifacts. Archaeological materials are associated with two main cultural-stratigraphic layers. The first layer associated with the period of the early Iron Age - medieval period have yielded ritual burials of horses, metal ware, stone artifacts and fragments of ceramic vessels. The second layer corresponds to the Neolithic - Paleometal period. Metal ware and stone artifacts, ceramic vessels, burials and a unique ritual burial of a cow have been noted within this layer.
