Risk of preterm labour and low-birth-weight infants due to periodontal disease and apical periodontitis

The present study revealed that in most puerperae oral cavity was not sanated. The number of puerperae with apical periodontitis was 5 times higher in the group of puerperae with preterm delivery and low-birth-weight infants. Among those who had a term delivery of normal weight infants the number of women with healthy periodontium was higher by 13,7 %.
