The role of private entrepreneurship in the salt supply of the Russian Far East, 1860s - 1890s

The article deals with the participation of entrepreneurs in the system of state supply of salt to the population of the russian Far east in the 1860s - 1890s. The supply was organized through reserve stores, in which salt prepared by the government was stored and then sold to the population at an affordable price. To restock the salt, the state contracted entrepreneurs for supplies or bought their surpluses. The author examines the sources and volumes of salt supplies, as well as the activity of entrepreneurs who delivered this product to the region. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the initiatives of officials who sought to transform the salt supply system by transferring it into the hands of private capital.
