The town of Kirensk importance in the development of the Irkutsk region northern territories

The paper considers the town of Kirensk economic and geographical features of location in different periods. Due to the advantageous geographic location the Kirensky prison, which served as a springboard for the development of the Irkutsk region northern territories, was founded at the intersection of two rivers - Lena and Kirenga. It is given the population dynamics in Kirensks and highlighted the prospects for its development in modern conditions.
