Apocalypse (Revelation of St. John the Devine) has always attracted Russian poets, but the poetic interpretations of its chapters and episodes as well as the philological analysis of the texts on the basis of Christian tradition can be seldom found. The article shows several interpretations of the episode of the fourth chapter of Revelation (4,2-11) made by V.A. Zhukovsky, A.N. Maikov, I.A. Bunin and A.A. Fet. Special role is given to Christian symbolism of the chapter.
