The role and place of traditional libraries in terms of the digitalization of society

The article is devoted to the prospects and conditions of development in the digital society of the library as a social institution. The role of the state in the preservation of the library is shown. The author reveals the problems of modern library policy and formulates provisions that should help to preserve the place, strengthen the role of the traditional library in the digital environment without losing its unconditional advantages. The necessity of changes at the ideological, legislative, organizational, technological, financial levels is substantiated.
