The article examines the role of commodity science in customs at the present stage, taking into account the context of globalization and the growing international trade. Customs officers with experience in the field of commodity science conduct research and analysis of various aspects of goods, such as their consumer characteristics, quality, composition and origin. This analysis makes it possible to determine the appropriate code for classifying goods when crossing the customs border. The article contains an analysis of the activities of the Federal Customs Service of Russia related to the movement of goods across the customs border, highlighting the modern methods and technologies used. In addition, it identifies the problems and prospects for the development of this area.
