Role of imperial Italy in the policy of late medieval emperors

The article is devoted to the problem of determining place and role of Imperial Italy in the political and legal structure of the Holy Roman Empire in the late medieval period. The author explores the main orientations of the Italian imperial policy during the reign of Maximilian I, also considering some aspects of his predecessors' activities.
