Speech prosody as identifying means of speaker’s social and ethnic background

The paper focuses on the role of prosodic features in the course of identifying the speaker's social and ethnic background. It also presents the results of some experimental studies into melodic and temporal features of the Afro-American English dialect with respect to the social and historic conditions of its formation and development.
