The research is aimed at analyzing the impact of small and medium-sized businesses on the economic progress of the capital of Russia. The main goal was to assess the dynamics of the growth of the number of SMEs, their importance for the Moscow budget and the effectiveness of the government’s support measures. The starting point of the study was to study the number of registered SMEs and identify the reasons contributing to their growth. It was found that various economic and tax reforms, as well as demographic shifts, had a positive impact on the quantitative indicators of SMEs. Government support programs were reviewed in detail, including the provision of concessional loans, grants, and subsidies, which contributes to the further development of this sector. Also, as part of the work, the number of employees in SMEs, the dynamics of turnover by industry and the growth of tax revenues from SMEs to the city budget were studied, which made it possible to assess their role in the economic well-being of Moscow. Specific examples of successful enterprises, their experience and innovative changes that contributed to the growth of turnover of small companies were given. These case studies emphasize the practical importance of introducing new technologies and optimizing business processes, as well as the willingness of entrepreneurs to experiment and innovate. The examples showed how, through the introduction of lean manufacturing principles and optimization of work processes, it is possible not only to increase production volumes, but also to increase the level of productivity and profitability of the business. Particular attention is paid to the impact of global economic trends on the business sector and the adaptation of SMEs to them, which includes the strategic use of analytical data and the application of machine learning. Based on the results of the study, the thesis is supported that an integrated and balanced approach to the management and support of SMEs can become a catalyst for the further development of the regional economy of Moscow.
