Role of mammography in detection of small breast cancer caused by fibrocystic mastopathy

Problems on early breast cancer are mainly related to the detection of small-sized tumors especially in patients with fibrocystic mastopathy. We analyzed the results of mammography in 100 patients with breast cancer occurring concurrently with fibrocystic mastopathy. The evidence of moderate and severe fibrocystic mastopathy was shown to make difficult visualization of breast tumors measuring less than 10 mm. X-ray findings of small breast cancer have not always typical cancer symptoms, therefore, small mammographically detected tumors less than 10 mm in diameter require more detailed examination using ultrasound and interventional radiology
