The role of national economic systems in the protection of intellectual property rights

The article analyzes the functions of national innovation systems (NIS) performed in the field of knowledge production and protection of the results of intellectual activity. The purpose of the study is to identify the impact of NIS on the state of the R&D sphere in the context of improving international legislation on the protection of intellectual property rights. Particular attention is paid to the study of NIS models and the influence of their institutions on the level of competitiveness of high-tech manufacturers, determined by the state of the sphere of knowledge production. The necessity of further development of the NIS theory in order to adapt their provisions to changes in external and internal environment factors in the context of deteriorating macroeconomic conditions is substantiated.
