This article analyzes the role of Orthodoxy in the formation and preservation of Russian national and cultural-civilizational identity. Russian Orthodoxy has been closely associated with the formation of the Russian state, with the Russian people, culture, and the national idea of Russia for many centuries. And today it continues to play a crucial role in the life of the country's citizens, transmitting traditional values to society - patriotism, faith in goodness, honor, justice, personal dignity, the desire to fulfill a moral duty to oneself, one's family, one's Fatherland, etc. The Orthodox mentality determines the behavior and thinking of the Russian people, forms a fulcrum for the interaction of the ethnic groups of Russia as a multinational state. Russian Orthodox Christianity is the spiritual foundation of the Russian culture, it ensures the integration of the Russian society, and preserves the Russian national and cultural-civilizational identity.
