The article deals with the operation of precedent texts in the books of contemporary popular author of detective novels T. V. Ustinov. Based on the analysis of the collected material the authors determine the use of precedent texts in the works of the writer as a distinctive feature idiostyle, manifested not only in accor-sponding characteristics of the character, but also to determine the author's own story.
