Studies of the effect of low-dose γ-radiation on the resistance of plants to abiotic stresses have recently attracted great attention of researchers due to the constant environmental degradation. In separate examples, it was shown that γ-radiation in low doses can improve the resistance of plants to various stressful conditions. In the present work, we tried to find out the role of pre-sowing γ - irradiation of seeds in the salt tolerance of beans. The reaction of irradiated seeds to salt stress was evaluated both by the content of MDA and H2O2, and by the activity of the antioxidant enzyme catalase. The results of our studies showed that pre-sowing γ-treatment of seeds at doses of 10 Gy helps to reduce the oxidative stress caused by NaCl at relatively low concentrations (from 1 to 10 mM) of salt, which is reflected both in a decrease in the content of H2O2 and MDA, as well as in an increase in catalase activity . We assume that by preliminary γ-treatment of seeds before sowing at doses of 10 Gy, it is possible to increase the resistance of beans to salinization at NaCl concentrations from 1 to 10 mM.
