The role of regional identity in contemporary Russia (on the issue of format ion of regional consciousness)

The article is analyzed the processes of the modern culture-genesis in the Russian regions, the role of the Russian regional consciousness and their possible political implications. The reflection of the Leningrad regional identity and its imposition on Petersburg identity was taken as an example. A new character of interrelation of national and regional cultures is stated in the article.
