Based on archival sources for the first time introduced into scientific discourse, the article analyzes the problems of relations between the authorities and the Chechen believers during Stalin's deportation. It is emphasized that the desire of the authorities to exploit the Muslim clergy was resisted by the so-called "unapproachable" mullahs and the religious authorities who strictly reinforced the traditions and customs of the Chechen people. The study reviews the illegal prosecution of representatives of the Chechen intellectuals and clergy on the part of Soviet government authorities in the special resettlement area.
