There is a debate in science and the information space about the causes of the breakup of Yugoslavia (SFRY). Statements on this subject are sometimes diametrically opposed. But there is one notable feature here. Foreign authors prefer to talk about the predominant role of internal causes of the collapse of the federation, while scientists in Yugoslavia pay great attention to external causes and the role of international organizations. Most scientists and politicians adhere to the version of the great role of the internal factor, including the blame of the Serbs for the conflict situation in the SFRY in the late 80s. The author comes to the conclusion that the international factor played a decisive role in the collapse of the federation. It was he who supported the withdrawal of the republics from the federation, manipulated the decisions of international organizations, forced anti-Serbian actions, waged an information war, and incited nationalist sentiments. The destruction of the SFRY proceeded according to a plan developed in Washington, a plan that defended the interests of the world’s power centers and their subordinate international organizations.
