The role of the vaudeville couplet and the features of its performance

The article is devoted to the vaudeville couplet, its function in the vaudeville performance during the heyday of domestic vaudeville – 1815–1850. The methods of presenting couplets are analyzed, the typology of couplets is presented according to the principle of interaction with the public, the skill of performing couplets by outstanding artists of the 19th century. Spontaneity and courage in communicating with the public polished the accuracy of the actor's intonation, musical and rhythmic expressiveness of speech. Concert performance opened up even greater possibilities in the performance of the couplet and became the first step on the path of the couplet as a genre to independence.
