The article is devoted to the analysis of the article is well-known in the second half of the XIX century writer M. K. Tsebrikovoi on the novel of L. N. Tolstoy's «War and peace». It is shown that the critic interpretation of the novel differs from those which appeared in later critical and scientific articles.
